DuPont has filed a patent violation lawsuit against SunEdison and its affiliate NVT in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
In its complaint, DuPont has claimed that by sourcing and using PV cells and solar modules that consist of Samsung SDI, front side metallization paste, SunEdison breaches DuPont’s patented tellurium paste technology.
The complaint has also recognized Neo Solar Power of Taiwan as the cell manufacturer and Flextronics as contract manufacturer for SunEdison.
DuPont will apply its patent rights to defend the investment in solar energy efficiency, said, Peter Brenner, global photovoltaic business marketing manager, Microcircuit Materials, DuPont Electronics & Communications.
Installers and module makers like SunEdison are responsible for limiting the use of infringing cells or pastes. The patented tellurium technology is available only from DuPont and no other paste manufacturer has a license to use it, continued Brenner.
DuPont is a leading material supplier to the PV industry and has helped to improve the power output, lifetime and cost-competitiveness of solar energy through their Solamet photovoltaic metallization paste products, delivered after heavy investment in R & D.
The Solamet pastes are part of a broad and growing portfolio of products represented by DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions (DPVS).
