NRG Renew has secured a deal with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for its first project to integrate clean sustainable energy at The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection resort.

NRG Renew will utilize 2,000 PV solar panels for the 568 kilowatt solar installation.

The power produced will meet a part of the resort’s energy requirement, equivalent to the needs of around 90 homes.

The firm has focused on a design-driven approach during panel placement, ensuring that they do not hinder the iconic view of the Camelback Mountain and naturally integrate into the landscape.

In addition, NRG also has plans to install solar panels in Starwood’s properties situated at the U.S. Virgin Islands and Kaanapali.

These projects jointly will generate nearly 2 megawatts of solar power.

By the end of 2015, NRG Energy aims to become the second-biggest U.S. rooftop solar company.

NRG has made plans for more solar rooftop installations in Texas, California and the Northeast.

Starwood aims to lower energy consumption and carbon emissions up to 30 percent by 2020.
