Aramco, a leader in integrated energy and chemicals, has announced a substantial increase in proven gas and condensate reserves at the Jafurah unconventional field in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to the company’s latest figures, Saudi Aramco has now confirmed 15 trillion standard cubic feet (scf) of raw gas and two billion stock tank barrels (STB) of condensate as proven reserves at the Jafurah field.

This revelation contributes to a significant expansion in the total resource potential of the field, which is now estimated to house approximately 229 trillion scf of raw gas and an estimated 75 billion STB of condensate.

This achievement was made possible through the implementation of a pioneering approach to shale reserves booking, marking the first time such a method has been applied to unconventional resources in the industry.

The methodology focuses on ensuring the continuity of resources and the consistency of performance. To provide independent validation, respected industry reserves certification consultancy DeGolyer and MacNaughton conducted a thorough technical review of the statistical booking mechanism.

Amin H. Nasser, President & CEO of Saudi Aramco, emphasized the significance of this achievement in enhancing the Kingdom’s hydrocarbon wealth. He highlighted gas as a crucial resource for both the energy and chemicals sectors and underscored Saudi Aramco’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as advanced modeling and artificial intelligence, in the development of Jafurah.

With plans already underway, Saudi Aramco aims to commence production at Jafurah and anticipates ramping up to achieve a sustainable sales gas rate of two billion scfd by 2030. Additionally, the field is expected to yield significant volumes of ethane, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL), and condensate, further solidifying its importance in the company’s portfolio and the Kingdom’s economic landscape.
